Top five exercises to get rid of your double chin

Most of these quick exercises can be done from the comfort of your couch or office chair or as part of your warm-up and cool-down routines.

This is good news for everyone, as no one is exempted from the natural effects of aging — which unfortunately includes your skin losing collagen and elasticity beginning at age 20. This may result in a saggy neck or chin, which leaves looking less than our best.

EXERCISE 1: The Tongue Press

Count: 20 reps each workout

To complete one rep:

  1. Sit back straight with your shoulders down.
  2. Tilt your head back so you are looking at the ceiling.
  3. Forcefully press your tongue flat to the roof of your mouth.
  4. Keeping your tongue in that position, lower your chin to your chest as far as you can without rounding your back. You should feel your chin and the front of your neck contract.
  5. Relax your tongue and slowly straighten your neck to return to the starting position.

EXERCISE 2: The Kiss

Count: 15 reps per workout

To complete one rep:

  1. While standing, tilt your head back and look toward the ceiling.
  2. Pucker your lips and “kiss the ceiling.”
  3. Hold the kiss for five seconds.
  4. Relax your lips and return your head to a neutral position.

EXERCISE 3: The O

Count: 20 reps per workout

To complete one rep:

  1. Sit with your back straight and your shoulders down.
  2. Tilt your head back so that you are looking at the ceiling.
  3. Close your lips so they are together but relaxed.
  4. Keeping your lips closed, open your mouth so that it forms an “O” shape. Hold this position for 20 seconds. You should feel a contraction on both sides of your neck directly under your jaw line.
  5. Relax your mouth and lower your chin to return to the starting position.

EXERCISE 4: The Jaw Jut

Count: 10 reps per workout

To complete one rep:

  1. Tilt your head back and look toward the ceiling.
  2. Push your lower jaw forward to feel a stretch under the chin.
  3. Hold the jaw jut for 10 counts.
  4. Relax your jaw, and return your head to a neutral position.

EXERCISE 5: The Neck Roll

Count: 3 reps per workout

To complete one rep:

  1. While standing, drop your chin forward to your chest.
  2. Slowly rotate your head to the right.
  3. Hold your head for five counts.
  4. Slowly rotate your head back down so that your chin is to your chest.
  5. Continue to rotate your head to the left.
  6. Hold your head for five counts.
  7. Repeat this for 30 seconds.
