Chin Liposuction Surgery in Melbourne

If you are looking to eliminate a double chin and enhance the appearance of your jaw line then Chin Liposuction would be a suitable procedure. It involves the removal of fatty tissue under the chin, beneath the jowl and along the upper portion of the neck. While there is no specific chin surgery, a mix of different techniques can remove excess fat and tighten neck skin to create a firmer, more defined chin and neck area.

Liposuction being performed on the double chin can only be performed on people with the right skin and volume of fat under the chin. A person who is anywhere between 20 to 50 years old can have liposuction to remove the double chin but it won’t improve the skin’s quality. Neck lift surgery, on the other hand, can correct the sagging skin or loose skin on the neck. Sometimes, a doctor will perform a neck liposuction and a neck lift together and chin augmentation with dermal fillers. This allows for a perfect outcome in the region because we can make the jaw line more prominent and remove excess fat under the chin.

    Frequently asked questions

    What is Chin Liposuction?

Chin Liposuction is also called submental liposuction or chin lipo. It is a fast and efficient way to address the double chin area. It tightens the muscles beneath the chin and improves the contour of the chin to acheive a far more chiseled face. The procedure is relatively pain-free and quick. Quick 15 minutes as it  uses a cannula to suction excess fat from the chin, neck, and jowls to create a more contoured, defined look. It can be performed in conjunction with a facelift, neck lift and/or chin implant to significantly enhance the facial appearance. The downtime is minimal, and the recovery is relatively quick.

    Chin liposuction offers many benefits:

    • Eliminates the double chin safely
    • Enhances the jawline
    • Reduces fat in the neck for a more natural transition from the neck to the jawline
    •

While chin liposuction is a proven and effective procedure for double chin, it does not remove the extra skin in comparison with a double chin surgery wherein the chin fat is removed and improves the chin’s appearance. In some cases, a facelift or neck lift is used to tighten the facial skin.

    What happens after the procedure?

During your consultation, your cosmetic surgeon should provide full details such as the benefits and risks to help a patient prepare for submental liposuction. He should be able to explain all the stages of the procedure before it is performed so the patient knows what to expect on the day of the chin liposuction .

Bruising and swelling are common side effects post surgery. The patient is required to wear head-wrap for about a week to keep the pressure under the chin. It will minimize chin swelling and ensures the skin will conform to the neck contour correctly. After the procedure, the patients are encouraged to remain in an elevated upright position for a week for optimal healing process. For about a week, most patients will be able to return to work.

Are you candidate for chin liposuction?

A good candidate for chin liposuction should have enough elasticity so their skin can bounce back and heal into its new newly contoured shape. Even if you’re naturally slim or have worked hard to lose weight, fat under the chin can resist diet and exercise. An individual who is concerned about excess skin and fat in the chin area and in their 40s or beyond may be an ideal candidate for chin liposuction but may need neck lift to remove excess skin. not recommended for people who are obese or very overweight. Chin liposuction only removes superficial fat and doesn’t touch a layer of deeper fat (called the subplatysmal fat)  that will remain after the procedure.

To accurately determine if a patient is a good candidate, at your initial consultation, the skin will be examined, the patient’s facial features and medical history to point out if a good or bad result will be achieved. This will help the individual better understand the procedure and the risks involved to make an informed decision.

    What does the procedure involve?

Chin liposuction is an outpatient or a day procedure. Overall it will take 2-3 hours from the time you step into the clinic to when you leave the clinic. It is not a painful procedure and you will not be going under general anaesthetic. The procedure will be done under deep sedation. Your cosmetic surgeon may use lidocaine to numb the treatment area prior to the procedure. He may also inject  a vasoconstrictor into the fat to limit pain and bleeding. Small incisions are just needed as an entry point for the cannula to sunction out fat and fluid. Full recovery lasts for about a week and the pain following the liposuction subsides after a few days. We require you to wear a sling underneath the chin for up to 2 weeks in order to obtain the best results.

What is the result like and the cost involved?

Chin liposuction delivers long-term results and it’s effectiveness varies based on the individual and whether you maintain a consistent weight. On average, the results of a chin liposuction lasts 7 to 10 years. However, the aging process may affect the results and which may gradually disappear.

There are several factors that determine the cost of a chin liposuction. The best way to know the exact figure is by attending the initial consultation so the cosmetic doctor can outline the costs before surgery. This also allows a patient time to evaluate and plan accordingly.

What are the risks and complications of chin liposuction?

Chin liposuction side effects such as  bruising and swelling are minimal due to small incisions done during the treatment. It may last for a few weeks and will subside.  Like any cosmetic or plastic surgery, there are risks associated with chin liposuction such as:

    • Infection
    • Pain
    • Fever
    • Bleeding

All these complications can be minimised by choosing the right surgeon. At SKIN CLUB – Cosmetic Doctors all our doctors have performed these procedures with the correct training and technical expertise. They have a refined sense of appreciation when it comes to analysing the face or chin area.

How long does chin liposuction take to heal?

The full healing process requires up to 3 week, with continuous improvement for up to 1 month after surgery. Most patients can resume their everyday activities within 1 to 2 weeks.  If they need to do strenuous activities, it is recommended to wait for up to six weeks following treatment. Any swelling and discomfort in the neck and chin after chin liposuction surgery is normal and will subside within 1 to 2  days of treatment. A patient may also require drains to reduce blood and fluid buildup in the neck.

When can I shower after chin liposuction?

Chin liposuction patients can shower the day after surgery. If you are given a wrap to wear, you can temporarily remove it when showering.

How quickly will the results be visible?

The results of chin liposuction become apparent within 1 week of treatment. You will find your neck will look more youthful and revitalized once bruising and swelling disappears.

What are the alternatives to chin liposuction?

Kybella is a nonsurgical, FDA-approved option for treating a double chin. A doctor injects deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring enzyme, to permanently dissolve excess fat. However, the downtime can actually be much longer as you may need 2 or 3 treatments, spaced 4 weeks apart. The advantage is that you don’t have to have surgery. There is considerably more skin retraction and tightness with the

Another option is the CoolMini. It is a type of CoolSculpting with a smaller applicator that freezes the fat cells in order to destroy them. Once the targeted cells have been treated, the body flushes them away. However, CoolSculpting doesn’t remove all the fat.
