What are Lip Augmentation & Lip Fillers?

Lip fillers are the perfect way to add extra volume and plumpness to lips which may be lacking in shape or elasticity. At SKIN CLUB – Cosmetic Doctors, there are several types of lip filler treatments available to help you acheive your desired shape. Unlike other types of lip augmentation, lip fillers do not just look incredibly natural and subtle, they also feel that way. While more ‘stand out’ looks can be achieved by using more significant amounts of volume if desired, fillers are best known for producing natural-looking lip enhancement.

Our Lip Enhancement & Augmentation Procedure

For each new client, the Cosmetic Doctor will start the initial consultation by discussing desired results. From there, he will determine what will look best for your face and body. Every individual is different, and our tailored treatments reflect this. Our in-depth consultations help us provide what many of our clients consider the best choice for lip injections Melbourne has to offer. We take the time to work with patients to develop a plan to reach their aesthetic goals that are best suited to their situation.

After a discussion about the type of fillers in Melbourne, the site of injection, amount, and realistic expectation of results, you can decide if and when you would like to have the treatment. We can even provide same-day treatment!

    Frequently asked questions

What are Lip Fillers Made From?

We only use high-quality lip fillers to create volume, contour and add definition to the lips. Hyaluronic acid is one of the key ingredients of our lip fillers. It is a substance that naturally occurs in the body and helps increase volume in the lips. Lip injections made from hyaluronic acid have several benefits. Allergic reactions are unlikely due to their composition, as the substance is already present in the body. They are also dissolvable using a specific enzyme injection, which allows flexibility in such a case where you are not happy with the result you have achieved, or any other less than ideal outcomes. However, we are extremely confident in our use of dermal fillers. It consistently brings optimal outcomes for our lip enhancement patients.

How Long Do Lip Injections Last?

Lip Filler injections typically last between 6-12 months. However, this depends on several factors, such as the volume of filler injected and the brand of dermal fillers. Also, lifestyle factors, such as smoking or sun exposure, can affect the longevity of results as well as how quickly your body breaks down the filler. There will also be some slight variations in how rapidly each person will break down and metabolise lip injections that can’t be predicted.

    Do Lip Fillers Hurt?

During the treatment, you will experience mild discomfort. Some clients choose to have anaesthetic cream applied to the lips, which can make the treatment more comfortable. The lip filler also contains a local anaesthetic called Lidocaine, which helps ease discomfort during the procedure as the areas surrounding the initial injection will rapidly be numbed.

Does the Doctor Use Numbing Gel, Nerve Blocks or Ice?

Evidence suggests that numbing gels and ice have limited benefits in treating pain for lip filler and dermal filler treatments. We inject high-quality dermal fillers which carry a healthy dose of a numbing solution, making the procedure more comfortable. Nerve blocks are rarely used as they carry unnecessary complications.

How Do You Avoid 'Duck Lips’?

SKIN CLUB Cosmetic Doctors work with the natural shape of the lips to add volume and definition. ‘Duck lips’ often occur when the wrong type of filler has been used. Too much filler also causes ‘duck lips’. This is why it is imperative that your practitioner has extensive experience, along with a detailed knowledge of facial anatomy. If you want your lips to look naturally fuller, always look for high-quality lip fillers and have them applied by a skilled practitioner that is experienced in performing non-surgical lip augmentation.

What Will My Lips Feel Like After Treatment?

Tender and sore lips for the first couple of days after treatment are expected. You may also feel a heavy feeling in your lips, which is also natural. After any swelling or residual pain dissipates, they will feel quite natural. Unlike lip implants, this approach to lip enhancement provides a very natural feel that is quite impressive.

Can I Get 0.5mL of Lip Fillers?

This is a frequently asked question, and the answer depends on the Cosmetic Doctor. Our Cosmetic Doctors rarely use 0.5ml on our patients as it makes little difference to the size of the lips. The cost of 0.5ml or 1ml is the same as dermal fillers come in 1ml syringes from our manufacturers. Very rarely, our Cosmetic Doctors are training staff and may have some leftover product. In these circumstances, the 0.5ml is an option. However, this is only reserved for VIP or regular patients at SKIN CLUB and solely at our discretion.

How Long Before I Can Wear Lip Liner or Lipstick?

No makeup or product should be worn or applied to your lips for at least 12 hours following treatment. This helps enable your injection sites to heal without interference and reduces the chances of scarring or infection. You’ll be able to show off your lip injection results in no time. The best way to help ensure you have the best outcome is to give your lips a little time to breathe and recover.

    When Will I See Results?

The difference will be noticed immediately, but for the product to completely settle, it may take 2-6 weeks. Every treatment is tailored to the patient’s needs. Our treatment plans are designed to minimise risks and provide long term effects. Beware that swelling may initially make your lip enhancement results seem bigger than you initially anticipated. This is normal and should not cause panic. It is only natural for things to look a little puffy initially as mild swelling can often occur.

    Is There Any Downtime Involved?

Manipulation of the area, excessive exercising, and extreme weather conditions should be avoided for 2 weeks after treatment. Mild swelling may occur after the treatment, which can be soothed by applying ice to the affected area. The swelling will last for up to 7 days, with the full effects of the treatment showing within approximately 2 weeks. Small lumps may also occur; if these lumps are large or persistent, they can be corrected by the doctor. Lips may also dry out in the first 12-24 hours. This could be easily addressed by regular lip balm application.

Am I Right for Lip Filler Treatment?

If you are a regular healthy person, then you are suitable for a lip filler treatment! Our treatments take minutes in the hands of our qualified Cosmetic Doctors. In addition to lip fillers, wrinkles that develop due to lifestyle factors such as ageing and smoking can also be treated. If you are keen to know more about the treatment, please call (03) 9999 7368 or fill out the contact form. As with all anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments, patients should avoid all blood thinners for 48 hours before treatment as these can increase bruising and cause other issues. Avoiding alcohol and things like aspirin for the same reason is highly recommended.

Which Dermal Fillers Do You Use?

At the SKIN CLUB Cosmetic Doctors, we use fillers made by Teoxane Laboratories that incorporates Swiss Science. Teosyal products are injectable dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid designed to add volume to the face and help your skin retain moisture. Because of its better cross-linking bonds, less of the product is needed, which also means less risk for infection.

How Long Do Dermal Fillers Last?

Dermal Fillers can last up to 6-12 months. The effect of the fillers depends on the individual and the type of filler used. At Skin Club Cosmetic Doctors, we have standard and premium fillers, which are the thick and thin fillers, respectively. Swiss-made fillers can last up to 12 months. Dermal fillers are a gel substance made up of hyaluronic acid or HA. HA is naturally found in the body and will be absorbed back into the skin and disappear over time. Once you start noticing that the effects of your fillers are wearing-off, you can book in for top-up treatment.

    How are Lip Fillers Administered?

Firstly, the lips are cleansed and numbed with an anesthetic. The dermal filler is then injected in small amounts under the surface of the skin on the lips. The objective is to create plumper, smoother, firmer lips that still look natural. The process is often as quick as 15 minutes, making it quite the time saver compared to other types of lip augmentation.

Is There an Age Limit for Lip Filler Treatments?

Yes, we cannot treat anyone below the age of 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. During the consultation and treatment, the parent or guardian must be present. If you are worried you may be a little too mature though, provided you are in good health, you are likely still a great candidate for non-surgical lip augmentation using lip injections.

    Are Lip Fillers Safe?

Yes, lip augmentation with lip injections is considered to be a safe cosmetic treatment. As with all other treatments, there are still risks to consider. Infection, scarring, bruising, redness, and swelling are the most common side effects. During your consultation, you will be fully informed on what to expect and consider as you decide whether or not to have lip injections.

You can reduce some of the risks by ensuring that you only visit clinics like SKIN CLUB. We only use high-quality dermal fillers that are applied by skilled cosmetic doctors experienced in applying them.
