Migraine Injections Treatment

Dealing with migraines can be incredibly detrimental to your life; you never know when one is going to strike and ruin your day. It’s hard to schedule your life and keep up with appointments when you are suddenly hit with a migraine that throws your plans in a tailspin. There are many ways people try to deal with migraines, and if you are struggling to find a solution or looking for one, we might have just the thing at Skin Club.

The Treatment We Offer Might Surprise You at First

Sometimes the last thing you expect to hear can be an approach you hadn’t considered at all, and for many people, that’s likely the case here. The treatment we use at Skin Club for migraine sufferers is targeted use of anti-wrinkle injections. If this is the first time you’ve heard of it, you’re probably a little confused, but if that’s the case, you’d probably also be surprised to learn that anti-wrinkle injections have a long history in not just cosmetic use but the traditional medical field as well. Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for a variety of issues, something quite interesting is it’s used in treating those with cerebral palsy in some situations to reduce muscle spasms. When you put things into perspective, it’s suddenly not so surprising that anti-wrinkle injections are useful here as well for many people.

Long Term Study Into Using Anti-Wrinkle Injections for Migraine

This isn’t some new age idea either, study and interest in this use case started back in the 1990s with an investigation into the use for treating headaches and found no notable effectiveness in the overall test group, however, a subset of this test group had persistent migraine issues an improvement was observed leaving more questions.

Since then PREEMPT trials that have occurred in the United Kingdom taking 1384 patients with chronic migraine and did a blind test using both anti-wrinkle injections and a placebo. Patients in this trial were suffering 20 headaches a month on average, with 18 being considered moderate to severe in intensity. Over 56 weeks these subjects were given fixed dose injections at 12 weekly intervals. After two cycles of the treatments at six months, patients were experiencing on average eight fewer headaches a month, after a year around 70% had less than half the episodes they were initially experiencing.

    Are Anti-Wrinkle Injections Safe?

No serious irreversible or permanent side effects have ever been recorded in the history of use of anti-wrinkle injections. However, all treatments have some potential for side effects, and these should always be considered to make the most informed decisions before undertaking any treatment. Talk to your practitioner during your consultation to get a full understanding of the risks involved and any that may be exacerbated by any medications you may take or other considerations as sometimes this can vary, one of the reasons a professional consultation is so valuable. The most common side effects of anti-wrinkle injections are neck pain, muscle weakness, minor bruising, and eyelid droop.

Using only a skilled and experienced cosmetic doctor to perform your treatment you provide yourself the best odds of having a quality outcome with the least chance of side effects as a skilled application can reduce the odds of many of the issues people often face, but again always consider the risks and balance them before moving forward with treatment.

What Area is Treated With Migraine Injections?

These injections relax muscles exposed to this injectable. When giving migraine injections with the goal of reducing migraines, the forehead is targeted more specifically the frontalis muscle in the forehead region. This particular muscle has involvement in the lifting of the brow so if you want a reference to get some idea of the muscle involved in this treatment without any knowledge of facial anatomy this will give you some idea.

Between 5 and 13 injections around the forehead are usually used to relax this muscle effectively. These injections are carefully performed across a broad area with precision to avoid causing drooping of the brows while providing adequate relaxation of the target muscle to give the intended outcome.

What Mechanism Does This Use for Assisting with Migraines?

While evidence is growing for its effectiveness for many people in reducing their migraine issues, it’s not exactly clear yet what mechanism causes the reduction in migraine incidents many people experience with this approach. Unlike many other use cases for anti-wrinkle injections, it is not thought that the direct relaxation of an overactive muscle is the direct reason for this reduction many people experience. It is thought that perhaps it is more likely that it inhibits the release of peripheral nociceptive neurotransmitters, which may then have a knock-on effect on the central pain processing systems that generate migraine headaches.
