Is Kybella Injection Reliable?

Dr. Vi Sharma has worked in the field of cosmetic surgery

He has a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery, Monash University; and former member of the Australasian College of Aesthetic Medicine and the Royal Australian College of General Practice.

Kybella is an injectable drug that comes with a plethora of marketing claims and little or no clinical evidence to support them. Because of that, it can be hard to tell what is real and what isn’t with this treatment. However, that doesn’t mean that it is useless either. There are many cases where Kybella has been reported to provide varying degrees of real treatment results. In a nutshell, Kybella is a form of a small molecule that is injected directly into the fat cells under the skin of your abdomen. This helps the fat cells to shrink and then eventually die, stimulating collagen production to help boost and firm the skin, and increase its elasticity. However, this still leaves questions on just how good it is.

Reliability of Kybella Injections

One thing that doctors do often study is the reliability and effectiveness of Kybella injections in doing what it promises. Generally speaking though, these results are quite positive. Studies show that Melbourne double chin injections have an efficacy rate of around 82.4 percent who report significant improvement in their appearance. Additionally, the treatment has undergone clinical trials and FDA testing which both conclude it as minimal-risk and reliable for use. These improvements come not only at their physical appearance but also emotional ones too. This is because many people feel much better about themselves after getting this treatment.

These benefits are not short-term gains either, they are there to stay. In some studies, up to 75-90% of patients who get this procedure still have the effects more than half a decade either.

This means that few health issues developed from using it or that those that were came from isolated incidents. Because of that, doctors deem it minimal-risk enough for public use. However, while this is reliable, that does not mean it is free from risks either. It is still very important that you understand some of the risks that can develop from this treatment.

Risks From a Kybella Injection

Of course, even with 82 percent, it does leave a small room for error. In this room, you have the potential for side effects and health risks to your body. You must remain aware of that before considering any treatment. Some of these side effects are fairly mild, but others can be quite serious. Thankfully a responsible doctor will make sure you are well aware of what you are getting into during your initial consultation, risks and all.

Nerve Damage

One of the biggest risks you can experience is nerve damage. This happens when your doctor accidentally injects a nerve instead of your fat which can damage it. The extent of the damage can vary, but this can cause issues such as temporary numbness and difficulty moving your chin. It can make certain bodily functions difficult around the area. If the issue is not serious, there is a chance that it will heal on its own. However, if it is a serious puncture, this can cause long-term issues for that area. It can require a doctor to treat it if they can fix it at all.

Depending on what part of your body it is in, the actual effects can vary. For example, if it takes place around your eyes, it can cause blurry vision or even blindness. Meanwhile, if it takes place around your neck, it affects your ability to eat or causes your muscles to sag. This can make it difficult to swallow or chew your food. For men, the damage of nerves can also affect the growth of facial hair in that area. Some patients report that they started to lose small patches of hair from their china after the treatment.

Hematoma

Aside from never, another thing that you can damage from a double chin injection in Melbourne is blood vessels. Similar to nerves, blood vessels are suspectable to damage and can carry serious repercussions if you puncture them. The most notable side effect is that these issues can cause blood clotting or Hematoma. This is when blood collects right under your skin which can cause discoloration and bruise. Depending on how serious it is, the condition may clear up on its own. On the other hand, it may also need medical treatment to fix. During the clinical testing, 72% reported Hematoma after their injections. While in most cases it was fairly mild, others did require some treatment to fix it.

Skin Necrosis and Scarring

A little bit of redness or discoloration is hardly anything to worry about. However, if it persists then that is the time to be worried. Another rare but still possible issue is Skin necrosis. this can happen if the injection damages parts of your skin such as puncturing the wrong layer. The result of this is instead of freezing and dissolving fat, it simply kills the tissue there. This may not seem so bad, but this means it will not get destroyed naturally. A result is a form of skin necrosis that will lead to whole areas being affected. This creates scars in the treatment area. Sometimes doctors may not be able to repair the damage, meaning that you can be stuck with it.

Are There Ways to Lessen the Risks

Oh without a doubt. You are far from helpless with this treatment even if it seems like it. There is a lot you can do to help reduce the amount of pain and problems you will encounter from this treatment. It is all a matter of taking some careful steps to reduce the risks and try and control the issues.

Finding a Reliable Doctor

Probably the most important thing you can do to reduce the risks of this treatment is to find a doctor to perform the treatment properly. While what you can do is limited at times, what your doctor does can change everyone, after all, he is the one giving the needle. First of all, do your research and make sure the doctor you get has done this kind of thing before. Make sure they have experience with this treatment and know about the different nuances that we mentioned here before considering them. If they don’t, well then maybe it is time to find a new doctor.

Report Issues Right Away

Even with this precaution, there is always the chance that some issues can slip through and cause side effects. If this is the case, be sure to report the problem right away. Many of these health issues can be treated if you catch them early. This means being observant of any changes in your body. If you do find any, keep track of them and make notes of when you first get them so you have exact information to report to your doctor.
