Gynecomastia Surgery Melbourne
Also known as “man boobs”, gynecomastia is a condition that can be treatable. When you speak with the team at Skin Club, you will be able to learn more about the options available for male breast reduction.
This condition forms when there is an excessive accumulation of fat or an issue with the gland in the male breast region. This is something that can cause a great deal of anxiety or even impact your confidence or lead to social withdrawal from some of the more simple activities in life, like not wanting to take your shirt off at the beach or pool. Unfortunately, gynecomastia is a condition that you cannot treat by exercise or diet.
Both males and females are going to naturally have varying levels of male and female hormones. Man boobs will usually develop when there is some sort of imbalance of the hormones in the body. Males that have a higher level of estrogen will be a lot more likely to develop gynecomastia.
This is a hormonal imbalance that can cause the glandular tissue to over-develop and it can lead to the deposit of extra fat in the breast region. The breast tissue that men have will also be very fibrous, which means that the fats here can be more difficult to remove. Genetics can also play a major role in the development of gynecomastia.
How Is Gynecomastia Treated?
Man boobs can be treated at Skin Club in one day using something known as Vaser Liposuction to remove both fat and glandular tissue. Patients will be given sedation and then a half centimeter incision is made. Local anesthesia will be used for numbing the region in the chest and then ulstrasound energy will be used with an ultrasound probe to help separate the fibrous tissue and fat cells.
Traditional liposuction in this area of the chest can be difficult because it is similar to breaking a solid piece of fat into smaller pieces. Vaser liposuction can provide a more efficient treatment plan using high energy through the ultrasound to separate the fibrous tissue and fat cells so that it is more like melted butter that is easy to remove with a small suction cannula.
The gland can also be surgically removed with the excess fat during this procedure.
After The Man Boobs Surgical Procedure
Downtime that is involved with removing man boobs can be minimal and all patients are able to leave the same day as the procedure. Recovery is quick and a lot of patients will be back to work within a couple of days. The tiny incisions will also only cause a minimal amount of scarring.
A compression garment can be worn after treatment to help cut back on the swelling and bruising as well as to help improve skin retraction. This is something that is worn for about three weeks on a full time basis and then three weeks part time. There are usually two to four post operative treatments that are recommended at about a day or up to five days after the procedure. With each 30 minute session, you will be given a lymphatic or heat massage for drainage, which is done by an on-site nurse or physiotherapist.
Good results can be seen at around six weeks and during this time, photos should be taken to show the results thus far. You can also learn more about the process of aftercare by clicking here.
What About Downtime?
This procedure is gentle and efficient, ensuring that recovery can be quick with minimal amounts of downtime. Once the man boobs are removed, the excessive fat and glands will not reappear. Recovery can be quick and the patients will be able to return to their normal activities in about two to three days. However, this is something that can vary from one patient to the next. Discomfort will generally be mild and it will usually feel as though you have gone through a tough workout of your chest at the gym.
Do Fat Glands Come Back?
The procedure allows for 90 to 100% of the gland to be removed, yet this will depend on your skin quality. The gland that has been removed will not come back, nor will the fat.
