Looking at the mirror, do you notice how your face gives away your emotions?
Even when smiling, does your face show the correct impression about your feelings?
Every structure of your face gives life to your emotions. Sadly for some, the effects of aging alter the emotions that their faces exhibit. There are times when a person who is smiling seemed angry because of drooping eyebrows. The upper face structures like the eyes, brows, and forehead play an important role in communicating your feelings.
Try looking at the mirror once again and observe how your sagging heavy brows make you look tired or unhappy even if you are smiling or happy. Fortunately, another advanced cosmetic solution can help solve the issues of drooping, sagging, or loosened eyebrows. This treatment is called brow lift.
What is a brow lift?
A brow lift is oftentimes called a forehead lift. This treatment helps raise sagging or drooping brows that are hooding the upper eyelids. It also reduces the wrinkles and fine lines that develop horizontally across the forehead and those that form on the bridge of the nose. A brow lift can help improve frown lines and the vertical creases that develop between the eyebrows. This treatment aims to place the eyebrows in an alert and youthful position.
Why should you opt for a brow lift?
Two factors that greatly cause the eyebrows to curve down making you look sad, angry, or tired are genetics and ageing. As you ages, the skin and soft tissues that consist the eyebrows lose firmness and elasticity. When this happens, the distance between the eyebrows and eyelids also shortens.
Genetics is something that you cannot control. If the facial features you have inherited gives you drooping brows, a brow lift can help raise, restore, and give your upper face a refreshed and more accommodating appearance.

The Brow Lift Procedure
A brow lift usually starts with the application of a local anaesthetic. Depending on the type of brow lift and the pain threshold of the patient, your cosmetic surgeon may choose to administer general anesthesia.
The Traditional or Open Brow Lift
In this type of brow lift procedure, a coronal incision is made. That is a long cut made across the forehead which can either be around the hairline or along with one of the creases of the forehead.
After the incision, the skin is lifted from the underlying tissues and the muscles are loosened while the fat is removed. Any excess skin will also be removed while the remaining skin is pulled and the brow is stitched into its new position.
Endoscopic Brow Lift
This procedure is a minimally invasive technique that uses a metal tube with a camera attached to its end. In this procedure, small incisions will be made instead of a long cut on your forehead. The incisions are strategically placed along the forehead to give optimal access to the structures of the eyebrows and the forehead. Through the incision sites, the skin of the eyebrows and forehead are repositioned to your desired look.
Suture Brow Lift
This procedure is an alternative non-surgical brow enhancing treatment that uses medical-grade soluble suture threads. These threads are inserted underneath the skin of the eyebrows using long thin cannulas. After releasing the threads under your skin, they grip onto your soft tissues and are pulled to help the skin move to its desired position. Afterwhich the excess threads are cut while providing an instantly noticeable lift on your eyebrows.
After a Brow Lift Procedure
After a brow lift procedure, you will experience mild to moderate swelling and bruising on the treated areas. For traditional brow lift, your forehead might be loosely wrapped to minimize bruising, bleeding, and swelling. And a small tube may be placed along the incision area to drain any excess blood or fluid.
Depending on the type of procedure, your cosmetic doctor will create an after-operation guideline to help you with your recovery. During the first few days following your brow lift procedure, you will be asked to have bed rest with your head elevated than your chest. You will also be asked to take pain relief medication as prescribed by your cosmetic doctor.
An application of a cold compress every ten to fifteen minutes during the first hour after waking in the morning may be recommended to suppress bleeding and to reduce swelling and bruising. You should avoid smoking, drinking alcohol-based beverages, and taking blood-thinning medicines during this time. Lastly, you should also prevent yourself from engaging in strenuous physical activities or exposing your incisions to excessive pressure or motion.
As the incisions on your forehead heal, you may experience itching and numbness. You may have to bear with it or you may ask your cosmetic doctor for an anti-itching cream. Bandages for a traditional brow lift will be removed typically after three days while sutures are removed within seven to ten days.
On average, incision marks will fade within the next four weeks. In the meantime, you may use makeup to conceal the incision marks and bruising. However, the swelling may last for a few days or weeks even especially for a traditional brow lift.
